Machines and hosts

How Hivemind runs terminals and agents on another computer: a machine over ssh, or a host over hive-net.

A frame can sit on another computer. Its terminals and agents then run there, in that computer's own background process, and keep running when you disconnect. There are two ways to reach it.

Two ways to run on another machine
  • Your computer → machine: ssh, with your own ~/.ssh/config and keys. The app puts its own version of hive there and runs hive daemon bridge, which joins your own background process on that machine. Each person who logs in as the same user has their own.
  • Your computer → host: hive-net, directly or through your relay. The host runs hive host, whose background process runs the workspace's terminals and agents.
  • A machine hive cannot be put on gets plain ssh terminals, which end when the connection drops.
