Hivemind and other apps that run coding agents side by side

Hivemind is a free desktop app where Claude Code, Codex and every other coding agent run side by side, each in a real terminal, and build the views, widgets and tools of your workspace. Which of these run on Linux and Windows?

Hivemind, Orca and Emdash ship for macOS, Linux and Windows. Superset runs on macOS, with Linux experimental. Conductor and cmux are macOS only.

Which are open source?

Hivemind and Orca (MIT), Emdash (Apache-2.0), cmux (GPL-3.0) and Claude Squad (AGPL-3.0). Superset's source is public under the Elastic License 2.0, which is not an open-source license. Conductor is closed source.

What does Hivemind do that the others don't say they do?

Your agents add to the app itself. Ask one for a view, a widget or a tool, and it writes a plugin that appears in your workspace while you watch. None of the others above says on its site that you can add your own views, widgets or tools.

When is another app the better choice?

Conductor and Superset run agents in cloud workspaces on their paid plans; Hivemind runs them on your own computers, and on machines you reach over ssh. cmux is a native macOS terminal, where Hivemind is an Electron app. Claude Squad stays inside your terminal. Orca and Superset have phone apps; Hivemind's phone page runs in your phone's browser.

Not in the table

Crystal is now Nimbalyst. Vibe Kanban's company shut down in April 2026, and the project carries on as community-maintained open source.
