# Open the app in a browser tab

> Serve the whole Hivemind app to a browser tab on this computer, or to another device through Tailscale.

Use Hivemind in a browser tab: the whole app, with your terminals and agents. It listens on this computer only, unless you put it behind Tailscale.

1. Check the Hivemind app is running: \`hive ctl agents --json\` must not fail with exit code 3.
2. Turn it on: \`hive config set browserApp.enabled true\`. The port is \`browserApp.port\` (4483 by default): read it with \`hive config get browserApp\`.
3. Check something answers: \`curl -sS -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}' http://127.0.0.1:4483/\`, with the port from step 2.
4. The link with its key is shown only in the app. Tell me to open Settings → In a browser and press Open. Never print, copy or send that link anywhere: whoever has it can use my terminals.

## Turn it on [#turn-it-on]

1. Open **Settings → In a browser**.
2. Turn on **Serve the app to a browser**.
3. Press **Open** next to the link that appears.

Check: the app opens in a browser tab at `http://127.0.0.1:4483/#token=…`.

The key in the link changes each time the app starts. Open the new link after a restart.

## Reach it from another device [#reach-it-from-another-device]

1. Put the app behind Tailscale on this computer: run `tailscale serve` for port 4483.
2. In **Settings → In a browser**, open **More options**.
3. Under **Other names**, add the address Tailscale gives, with its port if it has one.

Check: a second link appears, with that address. Open it on the other device.

**Port**, under **More options**, changes the port from 4483.

## If it didn't [#if-it-didnt]

| `Port 4483 is in use by another program` | Pick another **Port** under **More options**. |
| The old link stopped working | The app restarted, so the key changed. Use the new link. |
